.09 - Camera Movement

We watched videos and saw a presentation on camera movements and how they are used. So we can better understand media once seeing and studying it.
Pan:
Camera moves from one side to another the camera moves along a flat horizontal plane. The camera itself is not moving the camera is on a tripod moving left to right.
Whip Pan:
Can be used to create energy or to show a relationship
Tilt:
Camera moves from top to bottom or vice-versa. The shot connects two items the tilt involves two points point a and b. A slow upward tilt makes a subject appear bigger or more significant while downwards tilt has the opposite effect.
Push In:
Camera pushes toward the subject. can be used to direct attention to a specific detail. Good way to communicate internal conflict can elevate tension.
Pull Out:
Deemphasizes the subject, can unveil setting or context of the scene and characters. can detach you from the scene. Can make a subject seem helpless
Dolly:
A cart that is traveled along tracks. Camera is on the dolly and records the shot as it moves.
Track:
Similar to dolly shot except the camera does not move closer to the action instead the camera stays at a distance. A shot where the camera follows backwards forward or alongside the subject. Such shots can draw viewer's attention reveal a location, create depth, or signify character realization.
Crane:
A crane shot is achieved by a camera mounted on a platform which is connected to a mechanical arm that can lift the platform up down or laterally. A crane shot is taken by a camera on a moving crane or jib.
