.27 - Masthead Analysis and Design

Image
The Sports Illustrated masthead is an iconic masthead. Its simple yet appealing font lets is be known that the magazine the reader is looking at is a Sports Illustrated magazine but does not take away from the athlete or subjects on the cover. The masthead remains a simple color and is usually behind the subject in the cover. ESPN short for the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network is one of the most popular sports medias and the masthead varies from being behind or in front of the subject but primarily is behind them. This masthead just like the Sports Illustrated masthead remains a single color throughout all magazines. The Sport Masthead is placed on the top left corner of the magazine compared to the other two analysed which were in the top middle section. The Sport Masthead varies from 3 colors black, white, and red. But in every magazine the masthead stays a simple color. My personal favorite of the different mastheads analyzed this masthead shows some personality with t

.25 - Genre Decision and Explanation

I have decided my genre of my magazine to be the sports genre All my life I've been a fanatic of sports and the media behind it. I will now be able to provide my own sports magazine like the ones I've read my whole life. Some of the top sports magazine I will be getting my inspiration from is Sports Illustrated, Slam, and ESPN.  The sports magazine usually focuses in on a single athlete and their personality, work ethic, and the way the play the sport they specialize in. The athlete usually shows the sport they specialize in on the cover. The athlete presented on the cover is usually a male due to the stereotype that men predominately play sports and that women don't participate in sports. Although the gender of a sports magazine is usually restricted, the race of the athlete is balanced compared to other magazine genres.

.24 - Analyzing Music Magazine Genre

Image
Example 1: I chose this magazine due to it not only showing one of my favorite artist but the way it presented the subject. The color scheme is also pleasing to the eye. The subject has a mean look and a classic hip-hop look with the large chains around his neck. He overshadows the masthead. Looks into camera Example 2: I chose this magazine due to the unique shot of a light shining only in the center of the cover. The subject has chains and seems like a fur coat another look worn by hip-hop artist. The masthead is over the main subject. Looks into the camera Example 3: The color scheme of the cover is black and white with the only colors being on the side text on the cover and the masthead which is over the subject. The artist looks into the camera. After analyzing the three examples of music magazines common troupes and characteristics of the music genre are: - The artist looks into the camera on the cover  -The artist's name is on the cover usually with a tagline next to it suc

.23 - Analyzing Sports Magazine Genre

Image
Example 1: I chose this magazine due to immediate eye draw to it. The all around basic colors with the bright orange ball standing out over the title of the magazine. The intimidating look the player is given and the jersey of his team shows the player that he is.  Kevin Garnett was known for his grittiness, intensity, and defensive prowess. I also really like the title on the bottom left where there is empty space saying his nickname KG. Not only does the ball overlap his name on the top but he does as well.  This magazine stood out due to the subject in the middle being in focus while everything in the background is blurry. He also overlaps and covers the masthead This shows the importance and legendary aura of the QB Peyton Manning. This perfectly coincides with what the magazine is about, him making the Hall Of Fame. The colors also do not very much in the magazine cover with only blue, white and a hint of yellow. I chose this example for a sports magazine because i really liked

.22 - Genre Discussion

Lets first start off with the question  What Is A Genre? A genre is a stylistic category this can be of different medias such as music, film, literature, and art. Media within the same genres contain similar features that those expect to see  In terms of a magazine a genre is what the content of the magazine is focused on Different genres will appeal to different audiences Genres can be broken down into sub-genres - An example of this would be the music genre of magazine and sub-genres being pop, rock, rnb or rap. This can limit the audience of your magazine though  The two genres i have decided to look further into are the Music and Sports genre. Both of these topics are huge hobbies of mine being an avid watcher of the National Basketball Association and the National Football League. I also thoroughly enjoy music and collect record vinyl of my favorite albums.
